Capturing Heartfelt Newborn Photos With Siblings in Colorado

When we had Baby J's newborn photoshoot in Fort Collins, it was just the sweetest thing to see how big sister couldn't get enough of her baby brother! She wanted to cuddle him, look at his little face and be in all the photos. This doesn't always happen though - sometimes toddlers are still adjusting to having a new sibling and need a bit more encouragement to be part of the shoot, which is totally okay! Here are some ways I set the stage for successful newborn photos with siblings, to help you feel prepared and confident for your family’s session.

Tips for Newborn Photos with Siblings

  1. Allow for Breaks: Toddlers have boundless energy and may not be keen on sitting still and smiling for the camera the entire time. That's perfectly okay! I make sure to give toddlers frequent breaks during the session, allowing them to move around and be themselves.

  2. Bring Entertainment: To keep your toddler engaged and entertained when they're not in front of the camera, be sure to pack plenty of snacks, toys, books, or even an iPad. Having a family member or friend present can also provide an extra set of hands and keep your little one occupied.

  3. Embrace Imperfection: Parenthood isn't always picture-perfect and your session doesn't have to look (or feel) "perfect" either. We're capturing your family just as you are - and you're beautiful together! I promise! Every candid moment and genuine smile tells a beautiful story.

  4. Stay Present With Them: Some of the sweetest photos happen in the quiet, in-between moments. When they rest their head on your shoulder, reach out to touch baby's face, or finally decide that they're ready to smile. So give your toddlers a cuddle if they need it, get silly and sing their favorite songs - and really soak up these moments with them.
